La deuda pública es destino. Como ejemplo basta ver un mapa de América del Norte de las primeras décadas del siglo XX. Hasta 1934, esta región continental estaba ocupada por cuatro países: México, Estado Unidos, Canadá y Terranova; esta última, era una nación independiente dentro de la Mancomunidad Británica, pero una crisis de endeudamiento transformó a este país, con bandera e himno nacional, en una provincia más dentro del vasto territorio de Canadá. Terranova era un país con 280 mil habitantes, tenía el segundo parlamento más antiguo del imperio británico y casi 80 años de tradición democrática. Ante la imposibilidad de cubrir la deuda externa y en medio del enojo colectivo, el Parlamento decidió disolverse y reconocer a Londres como el nuevo centro de autoridad. Años más tarde, en 1949, el Parlamento de Westminster decidió que Terranova se convertiría en la décima provincia de Canadá.Downloads
