Ante el arrollador avance del proceso de globalización, es pertinente hacer énfasis en la necesidad de diseñar las políticas económicas, asignar los recursos y determinar las prioridades sin dejar a un lado los aspectos éticos y axiológicos, que deben ser la guía del desarrollo y la democracia. En el presente trabajo, se tocan algunos problemas de América Latina que son económicos y sociales, pero al mismo tiempo profundamente éticos. Por otra parte, se formulan cuestionamientos a ciertos argumentos comunes frente a ellos y se hace mención de los valores éticos que tendrían que orientar la selección de políticas y la acción para el desarrollo.
