LA POLÍTICA CAMBIARIA DE RÉGIMEN FLEXIBLE EN MÉXICO: 1995-2004

En México, a partir de 1995 se instrumentó una política cambiaria de régimen flexible consistente, en dejar que el peso tome su paridad de cambio de acuerdo con la oferta y la demanda de divisas. La fuerte entrada de capitales con fines productivos, ha originado un incremento en la oferta de divisas, consiguiendo tener una fuerte reserva de divisas, lo que provoca tener un tipo de cambio sobrevaluado. La evidencia empírica demuestra que actualmente existe una apreciación cambiaria bajo el régimen de la política cambiaria de régimen flexible, esto al observarse que el tipo de cambio real se encuentra por encima del tipo de cambio nominal. Los efectos de una apreciación cambiaria mantiene un constante déficit de la balanza de cuenta corriente. Las autoridades admiten, que lo anterior no representa ningún problema, ya que se compensa con una balanza de capitales superavitaria, pero que en largo plazo puede ser pernicioso para la economía mexicana.
