OBJECTIVE: To analyze the state of the art regarding the valorization of agro-industrial coconut (cocos nucifera) waste, identifying its chemical compositions, current industrial applications, and potential integration into the circular bioeconomy as a strategy for sustainable development.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study consisted of an exhaustive literature review aimed at summarizing, evaluating, and integrating previous research on key aspects related to the coconut industry and its agro-industrial residues. A Boolean search technique was employed, yielding a total of 98 results in SciELO, 228 in Web of Science, 217 in Scopus, and 97 in Google Scholar.
RESULTS: The findings demonstrate the growing popularity of coconut-derived products and their agro-industrial relevance.
CONCLUSIONS: Coconut waste represents an alternative and renewable raw material that needs to be oriented toward the consumer market to become part of a sustainable circular economy.
