OBJECTIVE: To analyze the economic impact of motorcycle taxi cooperatives in the municipal capital of Candelaria, Campeche, within the framework of the social solidarity economy, and to highlight their contribution to income and family sustenance.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted. A structured questionnaire, validated by expert review, was designed and administered to a sample of 166 active drivers from local cooperatives to collect reliable socioeconomic information.
RESULTS: Motorcycle taxi cooperatives represent a viable alternative that revitalizes the local economy. The findings demonstrate that these organizations offer accessible and direct employment opportunities, mitigating unemployment and boosting regional family income.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the critical challenges associated with the lack of regulatory framework and institutional support, cooperatives are consolidating themselves as a key player for urban mobility and the economic inclusion of vulnerable sectors.
