OBJECTIVE: To analyze information systems as a competitiveness factor in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Umán, Yucatán, Mexico.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: This was a non-experimental, quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive study conducted with a sample of 77 companies.
RESULTS: The findings showed that companies achieved a 62.41% competitiveness level in the information systems factor, suggesting that they consider these systems important to their business operations. However, there are still areas for improvement regarding the use of information systems, particularly in defining reports to support decision-making and implementing cybersecurity policies.

Companies seek to stand out from their competitors, and to achieve this, they consider information systems a factor influencing their competitiveness. These systems have been developed and continuously improved to meet the needs of businesses. Business owners consider information systems highly relevant to their activities and recognize that this factor has an impact on their competitiveness.
