OBJECTIVE: To develop an instrument to identify crew members for analog missions.
MATERIAL AND METHOD: This is an exploratory study that utilizes the competency based interview methodology to address the research question: Is it possible to develop an instrument to identify crew members for analog missions? This instrument is based on four guiding pillars: physical, organizational, technical, and area of expertise and consists of 12 items.
RESULTS: It was feasible to develop an instrument that, efficiently and effectively, allows for the identification of competencies that are part of the desirable profile for analog astronauts.
CONCLUSIONS: The significance of this research lies in providing an instrument capable of identifying the desirable profile of candidates for programs focused on developing analog astronaut competencies. Consequently, crew members can achieve a synergistic effect by pooling the intellectual capital of those involved in their training.
